Training is much more than getting stronger, faster, and more explosive.  Its more than getting bigger and better at weightlifting or any sport you are training for.  Weightlifting is a test of guts, courage and the discipline to keep pushing on.  Weightlifting will test you as a person, it is the ultimate report card on what kind of person you are.  Are you going to fight?  When you get knocked down are you going to get up? When you are being bullied by the weights are you going to run away and hide?  When your body says no, will your mind back down and surrender, or will your mind step up to the plate and keep training? Will you quit when times get hard?  My mom always taught me that when you get hit , you hit back. So I ask, When a weight hits you and destroys you and your self esteem, will you stand up tall, and try the weight again?  Miss or make at least you had the pride to try again.  Weightlifting will help every aspect of your life, if its your job, your relationships, your fears, or getting to know yourself, weightlifting is the ultimate life coach.   I don’t consider myself a strength coach, I consider myself a life coach, especially to these kids that come into California strength.  I teach strength in so many more ways than with a bar or weights, I teach these kids how to fight for what they want in life.  I teach these kids that nothing in life is easy, and that you have to work hard at anything you set your mind to.  I teach these kids that when you set your mind to something that you can achieve your dream, whether its a job interview or  making the varsity football team, I teach these kids how to become life fighters.  I teach these kids work ethic, I teach these kids that 200 kilo’s is always going to be 200 kilo’s, and its up to them whether or not they are going to move it.  I tell these kids, these small soldiers, that moving 200 kilo’s is the same as graduating from school and getting your dream job, you half to work hard to move that weight, no one is going to move it for you, like no one is going to give you a diploma. The structure, the work ethic and the discipline that weightlifting provides and demands has made me into a man and has changed my life for the best, so I want to give back to these young kids what weightlifting has given me, and give them the tools they need to succeed in life.  2012

I watch the movie the gladiator with russel crow before war takes place on sunday.  I watch that movie before battle, to gain courag and strength.  I will become maximus on sunday,  I will fight like him and I will kill any kilo or competitor that stands in my way.  Every kilo I kill will get me closer to victory, respect, my national title, my world team and my olympic team.  Every kilo I kill in battle will get me closer to MY gold medal.  I will go out fighting like maximus, I will have pride like maximus, I will have heart like maximus, and I will die trying like maximus.   The warm up room is where us gladiaters prepare for battle.  I am scared for what awaits me on the battle field, but  I look around at my california strength gladiaters  and we give each other courage.  Now I am ready, now I am mad, now nothing can stop me.  The chip on my shoulder gets big and loud and fuels me to fight with everythign I have.  As the doors open to the battle field I walk with pride and courage.  Right in front of your eyes I turn from a slave into a gladitater.  I grab the chalk from the battle field.  I rub it on my hands to feel what victory will taste like.  I stand beside my galdiaters becuase we are a team, becuase we are all fighting for the same thing.  Becuase without each other we would fall short.  I stand by Donny Shankle, Caleb Ward,  and Max Aita  lead by my king Dave Spitz and my honorable coach Glenn Pendlay.   Men that I would die for, men that I will fight with and smile in victory with. This Gladiator Jon North goes to battle for California Strength.

I want to snatch 220…..why not?  I want to clean and jerk 290…why not?  If we can put people on the moon and a robot on mars why cant I hit those numbers as a 105.  I want to win 4 gold medals passing pocket and dimas…why not? I want to be the best weightlifter to ever live.  I have given up so much for this sport,  so I want to take everything I can from it.  I want to take it all and not share.  weightlifting is not a sport it is my life,  so I am going to live my life to my fullest potential and thats how im going to snatch 220.  More than anything I want respect,  and I have not seen any besides my family at california strength.  So I am going to have to fight for it even more, hit bigger numbers bigger totals.  Im going to use this chip on my shoulder to be the best.  Been in this sport for a year and a half, top five in the United States, 4th at nationals but still know one knows who I am.   Buckle your seat belts people becuase in the next 10 years I am going to show people who I am and take my respect without asking.  I will be number one soon enough with the help of california strength.       Jumping Jonathan North

My name is Jon North and I am a robot.  I cannot lie to the public anymore about being human because I am not, I am a weightlifting robot.  I wake up in the morning and I eat kilo’s for breakfast, and the red ones are my favorite.  I love mixing my red kilo’s with tasty white cloudy chalk and a nice cold bar to top off my meal.  Now my meal is over its time to train, no words just a cold hard look from the one and only Donnie Shankle that says “its war time”.  I thank my maker for giving me a good robot heart because without it I would fall hard as Donnie would continue on his journey through the land of weightlifting without me.  That will never happen because I am a strong robot with a good robot heart.  I grab my shield and sword and begin to fight side by side with Donnie until there are no more kilo’s left to kill.  I wipe the red blood off my sword and tell Donnie good training.  My bold bright and proud california strength tattoo is moving up and down from my heart beat.  That tattoo gives me pride, for califronia strength is my maker.

Olympic weightlifting is war.  My lifting shoes are my sword, my singlet is my sheild, the bar is my horse, and the platform is my battle field.  I lift to win and nothing else.  Weightlifting is not a hobby.   It is my life.  All I want to be is the best.  Weightlifting is my food, my water, my sleep, my air, and my heart beat.  Sometimes, we are best friends, and sometimes we are not; but we both stay together, hold hands and look towards  the future where a gold medal shines bright and high in front of five coloreful rings.  My name is Jon North and I am a new employee at California Strength.
